My Praises to La Legion Fantastique!

I have to say that I think the addition of La Legion to the Dickens Fair is really a wonderful thing. I was noticing a very distinct crowd of customer types sporting the steam punk image, all seeming to have a good time. At one point I was out front waiting for friends and met several of them waiting in line. I engaged them and they were very interested in seeing La Legion, so I gave them directions to get there, and a bit later sure enough ran into them at La Legion. I think its something that should be encouraged as it seems to draw in more people. Remember Red Barn has to pay the bills so the more people we get coming to the fair the better.

I also found those working there to be bright, engaging and very talented. They really put themselves out there and it was a joy to see.

Hurray!!!!

The Legion really came into its own this year. The actors were did a great job, and they were all terrific fun to play with. The space looked, and worked, better than ever, and the shows were a hoot. Whenever I was near the place I saw plenty of guests having a great time. The whole crew deserves a hearty round of applause!

    Thank you very much.

We run into the "What has this got to do with Dickens" argument a LOT. At times, it can be quite disheartening - so hearing someone is pleased with what we do at Dickens means a lot. BTW - I don't really want to get into the Dickens/Victorian Fair argument at all...so please, don't get too involved on this particular thread.

No matter what WE as Dickens Folk want to see done at Dickens Fair...we have to remember the most important factor - The Audience!

We have a special title for certain folk who come into Legion - Velveteen Rabbits (because they make us real). Here are a few -

-The famous Young Master Evan Strashinsky who returned (after being inducted into Legion last year) with a full field report and an interview with a "real live Yeti". He was awarded the Order of Fogg ( a brass compass) for his service. We've been waiting to see him all year.
-The little boy who was so entranced by Neptune and Poseidon (our hermit crabs) that he asked his mom if he could have some as pets.
-A little girl who, after looking through our collection of oddities insisted that her mom "read her the books!"
-Another young boy (named Evan) who "defended his mother in a duel and showed us his scar (actually a scar from a nasty surgery). He was awarded the "Order of Liddenbrock" ( A fellowship foundry necklace of a dinosaur claw...well...dragon, actually). His mother was so moved, she was in tears as she told us how important we were to her son...and that we help inspire both of them, as she is a single mother trying to make ends meet with no father figure for her son. Mike Young (yes...I'm outing you, Mike) and I were nearly in tears ourselves!
-The little girl who hunted Thena down, and handed her a photo of herself in her own, handmade Annie Oakley costume!

These are but a few of the reasons that keep us going.

    Long live LF!

Hey Peter, I will only touch on the Dickens/Victorian thread to say that this is a question I ask my own group, the AC, repeatedly. "Why are we here? Why are we relevant?" If we can't answer that without BS, then we are not relevant.

The Legion was wonderfully relevant. I think that has shown true for you when others can answer that question for you. I also applaud your efforts. You were great.

My husband doesn't post here often (I'm the one with the typing skills), but he wishes to thank La Legion for playing with him as well.

(For those who saw any of the gig, my husband -- we are Pickwick Club, and he plays Phantom of the Opera -- made and sent the crate carrying the skull of General Cromarty to La Legion with a threatening letter ...)

Sharon...we soooo want to buy the Head of General Gromarty off of him! That was such a delightful treat! Tell him thank you ever so much for the efforts!

My dear Mister Fogg, I am pleased that the head met with your approval, I would consider it a honor to trade the head for a glass of champagne with the Legion, and the continued interaction as the Legion's greatest antagonist. I have more such props in the works,(Nemo is next!), for next year. If you will be so good as to send me a private message, I will be glad to ship this first of many props to you. I also hope that the meteorites that I bestowed upon your members will continue to be used to delight and enthrall the audience in the fairs to come. I remain your obedient servant-O.G.
