Unlike last, and most years, I couldn't make it to DCF this year. I really tried but business got in the way.
I got to thinking "What would make it better". I decided that I should teach "The 12 Days of Christmas", Sal's version, to the folks I work with. Would someone be nice and post it.
PLEASE.
With sugar.
I promise, next year, Lavender Martinis.

I’ll “need to clean it up” for work. Ah, bugger it, there is only one “juvenile” at work and she is 37 years old.
Unfortunately there is an new net Sheriff in town (net software). I can’t get to nearly as many sites as I am use to getting to. -

Re: Lyrics?
Thu, January 1, 2009 - 3:11 PMThe lyrics to the Sal's version were written by Robin Driskill and other LORS (why, we've changed 3, 4, 7 and 12 in the years I've been with the troupe!). You might want to ask her permission for anything other than small private distribution.... -

Thu, January 1, 2009 - 5:44 PMMy memory must be fading but those look like the same ones Robin and I came up with all those years ago. -

Re: Lyrics?
Thu, January 1, 2009 - 7:40 PMNot sure how many years ago that was, Kathi...but I do know they are different from what we sang in ' 90...I'm trying to remember what 4 and 7 were then... -

Re: Lyrics?
Thu, January 1, 2009 - 9:46 PMI remember 7 used to be "Strumpets Strutting", and 6 was "Whores-a Laying"
I'm fairly certain 9 has changed since I first heard the song over 20 year's ago--I don't remember what it was, but I remember being surprised at "Naughty Novels." when I first heard it.
I very much remember Pier 45 in the late 80's, telling a man taking pictures "Get your camera ready" for the final "FIIIIIIVE French Postcards!" of course it was nothing compared to the dozens of people involved in the BlowOut postcard poses these days! -

Re: Lyrics?
Thu, January 1, 2009 - 10:37 PMDeborah is correct - the members of the LORS (myself included) have changed and re-worked that song several times. And Kathi is also correct, she and I did do the original work back in the (ahem) "good old days".
I don't mind that people know and share our version (heck, everybody in Sal's thinks of it as "our" song), but it's always nice to remember who the creators/originators are.
(Personal rant ahead) And yes, I *do* get proprietary about some of the material that the LORS have performed over the years. We sweated blood and tears for our material, and it's always wrong when others perform it without even asking, let alone worrying about infringement of copyright. (End of rant/off soapbox now.) -

(as to your personal rant - I feel similarly about Jolly Beggar songs. Just not *right*...)

Re: Lyrics?
Fri, January 2, 2009 - 12:29 PMAh, the 80's. That is why I write most things down now. Robin, do you have the original lyrics? I know I never wrote them down. I did 12 Days lyrics for the 3 Crips this year but never got around to singing it. Maybe next year. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Lyrics?
Fri, January 2, 2009 - 12:46 PMFor groups (including Ren. Faire groups) that are involved with history and know how difficult it is to recreate things I am always surprised at how much of our own history isn’t recorded.
The old folks are dieing. The stories need to be recorded. -

Re: Lyrics?
Fri, January 2, 2009 - 8:16 PMToo true. I tried to get a 30 year chronicle of St. George off the ground, but there weren't enough material contributions to it.
Maybe I'll try again this year. A resolution? -

Re: Lyrics?
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 1:14 PMThe problem to remembering the past is actually remembering it & having proof to back up the memories you do have.

Re: Lyrics?
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 2:55 PMI agree, Norman. It is getting a little easier to find online evidence that we were once there, but anything before the mid-nineties? Forget it. And pic or video before 2000 or so is rare, though treasured when folks are kind enough to go through their actual physical pictures and actually physically scane them.

Re: Lyrics?
Fri, January 2, 2009 - 12:26 PMThis is Definitely NOT distribution. This is recruitment. I’ll only be showing such to the 6 people I work with. Perhaps they will be interested in going over to the seeder side of life.
Although two may be interested in "working" in the laundry. They will pass the physical.
Sorry for any confusion.
