Re: Cow Palace in budget talks
Thu, May 14, 2009 - 8:08 PMOh dear-o do we have to save it again?
It seems like only last week/year that Gov'nr Conan was "saving" the Cow Palace from Daly City selling it for $$$.
Until we come up with another awfully big barn, close to the public with loads of parking,
it looks like we get to join the fight, again!
Hey the CP ain't heaven, but it is a place to park those booths and invite the public.
Anyone got a couple winning lottery tix to buy the CP, at least the lower buildings and parking lot?
I don't know what's been/being paid for rent, nor the availability of another location, but I have faith that it's the most reasonably priced consistant locale around the Bay Area.
So, bring on the new effort to save the Fair site. -

If I hit it, I'm BUILDING a venue specifically for our sort of event. -

Re: Cow Palace in budget talks
Fri, May 15, 2009 - 6:12 AMKeep in mind, folks, that this is the Gov's May revise, which is full of Doomsday scenarios EVERY YEAR. Yes, we are in the most dire economy since the Depression, and while I would never be an apologist for His Govness, :-P but the May Revise always has a lot of bluff and bluster to get the people of CA calling their legislators (or, in this case, going to the polls next Tuesday--Which is one thing I agree with from the Gov) Remember Voter Apathy is giving them power!

This is very true. I've also noticed an awful lot of roadwork going on...makes them look like they're taking care of things.
Theatre, darlings, threatre...

Re: Cow Palace in budget talks
Fri, May 15, 2009 - 5:29 PMWell, I did find out today that State Parks has enough vacant positions to avoid layoffs. Thats a minor hooray! Just means fewer positions for those of us hoping to move up the ladder. Better than no job at all, though.

Re: Cow Palace in budget talks
Tue, May 19, 2009 - 12:33 PMSo write them letters. Leasing (as was decided last year) brings money for years to come, not just once (as Bob said, burning furniture to keep warm). If it does go on the block, well, there are now plenty of empty venues, Mervyn's comes to mind.
If saving the CP doesn't get you to the polls today, at least go VOTE FOR 1F : NO RAISES FOR POLITICIANS DURING FINANCIAL CRISIS!
